Our  History

The Morgagni Clinic is situated in Padova, between the Basilicas of  St. Anthony’s and St. Giustina’s, next to the beautiful ancient buildings of Prato della Valle.

The clinic has built its reputation on highly qualified specialists and the excellence of its advanced medical technology and  equipment, added to which, the architectural elegance and the beauty of the rooms make it one of the most prestigious Italian clinics.

Established in 1919 as Morgagni General Hospital, it was originally run by a joint stock company managed by Professor Giovanni Dilalba, owner of the building.

It had an operating theatre, an analysis laboratory, and a radiological and radiotherapeutic unit. There were 45 inpatients beds, staffed by a Director, four physicians, four nuns, and a male nurse.

Since then many changes have been made. The original  internal arrangement  has been improved, restored and enlarged. During the 1960's  the wing that houses the out-patients department  was rebuilt and in 1970 the building in Via Cavazzana was restored to accomodate the Administration and the Laboratory  of Analysis and Cytodiagnostics.

In 1993 the new operating block was built. It is organised to the highest standards of modern medical practice, with four operating theatres, three endoscopy sections and one intensive care unit. The staff has been enlarged to over a hundred, including doctors, paramedics and administrative staff.

Today the Morgagni is registred by the Italian Ministry of  Health  as a 'Health Centre of Advanced Specialisation'  and, as it follows in the tradition of the most prestigious schools of medicine, it has always been frequented by the most distinguished masters of Medicine and  Surgery, both general and specialised.
